Duke Jones @ Jimmie's Ice House, May 27th!

Duke Jones Friday Night
Jimmie's Ice House
2803 White Oak Drive

From Duke Jones:

Hello,
I just wanted to let everyone know I'll be playing at Jimmie's Ice House on Friday night. The show starts about 8:00 PM and it's FREE! Jimmie's is located on White Oak Dr. across from Fitzgeralds. Jimmie's is a heights institution. There's nothing pretentious about it. It's an honest to God Texas Juke Joint with cold beer, reasonably priced and big garage doors that roll up in the summer time.
I will be playing everything from country music to jazz with a lot of blues; Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Wilson Picket, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Willie Nelson, etc. It's just me, as usual, on the acoustic, but I have put out the call and you never know who might show up to sit in. That's all for now. Keep On Truckin'.

Fundraiser for Debbie Riddle

Fundraiser for Debbie Riddle

Saturday, June 11th, 7:30 to 10:00 PM
Winter Street Studios

2101 Winter Street

Houston, Texas 77007
www.winterstreetstudios.net

As most of you already know, our fellow member of the art community and owner of the gallery, Negative Space, was hurt in an accident three weeks ago.    There was a moment in time at first that we all seriously worried that she may not recover........but through the strength of all of our best positive thoughts and prayers from loved ones near and far, she has gotten much better!   She is home now, in the loving care of her mother and dearest friends and is recovering more every day!

On Saturday evening, June 11th we want to join as a community and celebrate the miracle of Debbie getting better in a special city-wide art fund-raiser to raise money to help her in this time of need.   The management of the newly restored Winter Street Studios has graciously donated their new art project space gallery and full air conditioning for all surrounding areas for this event........a spacious place where art has always historically been created near downtown Houston off of Washington and Sawyer.

We are really excited about this!   This gift of Debbie's health is what is inspiring all of us!  And she truly deserves it!   She has done so much for the art community in her own quiet and nice way for so many years......and has always been there for all of us.   She is genuine and real.... and knows how to be a true friend.    These qualities are admirable and the response on helping her in this way is uniting to all of us and helps us all realize what a special city we live in!

Since we started working on this fund-raiser, countless support has taken place, with galleries, non-profits, patrons, artists so many other members of our community all wanting to help and either donate their time, art, food, services or cash donations to make this possible.

But we still need more help to make this event as successful as we all want it to be.   Please contact one of these following key contacts by e-mail if you are willing to donate something or to support this project:

Houston artist, Sandi Seltzer Bryant, who has a studio at Winter Street, has kindly offered to be at the Winter Street Gallery all day on Friday, June 10th, for delivery of art.    We have a team of installation artists who have donated their time to install the show on Saturday.    We have some food donations, but could use some more, we still need more refreshments, money for invitations and the mailing and some other related supply expenses.   Most of all we are calling on artists and galleries to donate and everyone to further promote this endeavor.   We need staff to set up and work that night too.

If you are able to donate artwork, funds, food or your time for this event,
please email back to me or one of the other listed organizers, asap
and I will make sure your name is added to the list of contributors.

Thank You
Teresa O'Connor

This will be really fun and cheers to the future!  Thank you for supporting this wonderful cause!

Artists At Large

Artists At LargeWe are trying to find out the best way to reach as many quality artists as
possible for an art gala that we throw every year in November. There is a 15$
entry fee and the chosen artists pay a table fee (that is refundable/through
the sale of tickets to the event). Each artist is asked to give 30% of their
sales to the events pre-chosen charities. Take a look:

http://www.sculpturesbydesign.com/events/bootsball2005.htm

Let me know if you know anyone who would be interested. We are adding to the
list of artists on a rolling basis. There will be a cut off on the number of
artists able to participtate.

There are a number of corporate sponsors who will be posting for the drawings
each month as we draw closer to the event.

Thank you,
